Annual Awards and Funding for Your Passion
Friends of Nursing recognizes your for tremendous work and provides resources to keep your skills on the leading edge
Friends of Nursing is a philanthropic venture that recognizes and promotes excellence in nursing practice, education and research. The program has grown tremendously since it began more than 20 years ago with the hospital’s first-ever nursing donation—$100,000 from Richard and Peggy Fleming. Since then, support has come from grateful patients and their families, community members, hospital management, and other generous individuals and companies.
Awards
Every year around Nurses Week, we honor our extraordinary clinicians with the Friends of Nursing Celebration which includes the presentation of more than 40 awards. The awards are either cash or honoraria for continuing education.
Funding
Friends of Nursing also provides stipends for research activities and funding for staff presentations of their research at national conferences. Funds are also used to support staff members who participate in medical mission trips to third-world countries.
Support
As a member of our nursing staff, you’ll be able to apply for Friends of Nursing dollars to support special nursing projects designed to enhance patient outcomes or support nursing recruitment and retention strategies. An example of a recent project was a complementary therapy program for oncology inpatients and a summer nursing camp for high school students considering a nursing career. Many nurses have also received funding for overseas mission trips.
Legislative activities
For the past 10 years, two staff nurses have received scholarships and stipends to attend the annual Nurse in Washington Internship. Additionally, funds are used to support, reward and recognize our nursing staff’s involvement in legislative activities such as the coordination of voter registration drives, debates among candidates and letter-writing campaigns related to health care issues.
